There are many things in our world that revolve around money, but work happiness does not have to be one of them. Giving your workers increases may make them happier in the short term, but if you want them to remain, you need to provide them with incentives they can’t find anywhere else. Anyone may give a raise, but not everyone can pinpoint and deliver on what workers truly desire.

Here are some reward ideas that every business can afford that can keep your workers engaged and your team productive.

1. Provide hours that are flexible.

Whether they have children, elderly parents, or are just night owls or morning people by nature, this is by far the most requested perk. Employees with flexible hours may work on their own time, within reason.

Employees should still attend meetings, but they may plan their schedules around them. People like having a job where they can choose their own schedule, thus providing flexible work hours has a number of advantages.

2. Days and weeks when you don’t have to dress up

If you meet with customers on a frequent basis, you may need to have a stringent dress code. Offering workers the option to come to work in jeans and a T-shirt may be a plus for businesses with few customer meetings and more behind-the-scenes labor.

This will enable them to save money on workplace attire, allowing them to keep more of their income.

3. Increase the number of extra days off available.

If you can’t afford increases, more vacation days may be the next best thing. In fact, some individuals would rather have more vacation time than more money. You may distribute them how you see fit: Offer a company-wide day off following Thanksgiving, or allow employees to use their three free days throughout the year. Your staff will be appreciative, and you will have more committed, younger workers, regardless of your approach.

4. Encourage them with words of encouragement.

People like being complimented. When it comes from the heart, they are completely enthralled. Encourage individuals to compliment their coworkers by placing a box in the workplace where they may anonymously leave their compliments. To boost morale, give them to the individuals who are being complimented.

5. Form them into a spherical form.

Let’s face it: given our country’s rising obesity rate, everything you can do at work to promote exercise and good eating habits should be welcomed. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Begin a midday walking group.
  • Meetings should be held in the office gym.
  • On Fridays, instead of doughnuts, serve fresh fruit or a variety of baked nutritious muffins.
  • Start a weight-loss competition at the workplace.
  • Team up and run a 5K together.

6. Encourage rest periods

Small pauses throughout the day, rather than focusing on one job until you burn yourself out, have been proven to increase productivity.

Tell your workers to take a five- to ten-minute break two or three times each day. Allow them to relax in a lounge during their break or use their cellphones to check Facebook, and solicit their feedback on how you might make the breaks more pleasant.

7. Express gratitude

When was the last time you expressed gratitude to your coworkers? Give them some positive reinforcement if it’s been a while. Everyone enjoys being complimented, and they will like being singled out for special attention. Recognize them in a meeting, present them with a certificate, or engrave their name on a plaque.

8. Add some caffeine to the mix

The workplace coffee shop might learn a thing or two from Google, which is known for its generous employee benefits. While you may not be able to purchase gourmet coffee at the coffee shop, you should be able to improve your coffee choices, pick up a few interesting creamers, and replenish your tea supply.

9. Have a good time

Consider thinking beyond the box. Have you considered allowing employees to bring their dogs to work? Why not build a gaming area to entice customers to arrive early and remain late? There are a plethora of methods to engage your workers and make work a more enjoyable environment. All you have to do is think beyond the box.

10. Begin your spirit days.

Everyone has a hobby or a cause that they are enthusiastic about. It might be their favorite sports team, their children, or the newest video game fad. Whatever it is, sharing one’s interests is enjoyable. Encourage workers to engage in spirit days to feed them. This may include wearing their favorite sports team’s shirt to work or bringing in games to trade with other gamers.

Whatever you choose, you’ll be strengthening your team and learning more about one another, making your workplace that much more enjoyable.
