However, the thrill wears off after a while, and long days and lonely nights set in. You understand that becoming an entrepreneur is difficult. There are triumphs and setbacks, as well as exhilaration and frustration. You realize that you’ll need discipline, concentration, and determination to get through this.
When my company partner and I launched Credential Cabinet last summer, I was certain that we had all of these characteristics. At various times in our lives, we had faced and overcome other significant difficulties. I was certain that starting a business would be no different.
We felt it would be a good idea to join a startup accelerator after developing our minimum viable product (MVP) to get additional business knowledge and access to funding. We had no idea how much the accelerator experience would help us grow as a business and strengthen our commitment.
Credential Cabinet was accepted into the JFE Network’s autumn accelerator class in New York City in the beginning of November. This is an 8-week accelerator program that helps emerging tech companies get off the ground.
Now that we’re almost done with the program, I believe we’ve sharpened our focus and enhanced our business strategy. We’ve learned new things we hadn’t considered before, such as pricing tactics, cold emailing, and financial modeling. We’re also more motivated than ever to succeed.
Why? Because of the mentoring, companionship, and atmosphere that the accelerator program provided.
The accelerator’s mentoring component helped to reveal the value of our company, as well as our strengths and shortcomings. We are more confident in our product and our ability to sell it. In terms of our shortcomings, we heard from a variety of mentors. Each of us had somewhat different perspectives on the issues we discussed, allowing us to come to a consensus on the best approach.
Being a business owner may be isolating. Yes, you have a team, but there are only so many people that decide to start their own business. Your friends and family can unwind at the end of the day, but your days don’t always come to an end. We discovered that every other team in the accelerator was in a similar situation. It’s reassuring to know that you’re all dealing with the same issues. While each company has its own quirks, no one’s problems with teaming, sales, strategy, or legal concerns are really unique.
Taking part in an accelerator program gives your company a more concrete sense. Even if your business has traction and revenue before to joining an accelerator, as we did, the experience of being a member of one increases your firm’s visibility and generates good peer pressure to succeed. Furthermore, the accelerator sessions and timetable proceed at such a rapid speed that you will notice a noticeable increase in the pace of your work.
If you’ve started a business, I strongly advise you to go through an accelerator program. Although no two accelerators are same, and each has its own set of regulations, you will get genuine, impartial advise from the experience. Accelerators can only earn money if your business succeeds since they acquire a tiny share in it. Given this reality, it is in their best interests to assist you in growing your business.
Mentorship, camaraderie, and the fast-paced environment have given us a fresh perspective on our company. In the end, the advantages of any program are proportional to the amount of work put in, but we are more optimistic about our prospects of success and now have even more instruments to achieve our objectives.
